Asymptote Labs raises $5.5M for Beacon, an open-source memory layer built from your coding agent sessions

Beacon records sessions from Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, OpenCode and 20+ other harnesses and turns the useful parts into notes future agents can pull in. Its maker announced a seed round led by Tower Research Ventures on October 20.

Beacon is MIT-licensed and has been on GitHub since May. It captures each session (prompts, responses, tool calls, commands, edits, approvals, token counts) as JSONL, then pulls out workflows, corrections and debugging patterns that other agents can fetch through MCP or Agent Skills. So a fix your Codex session figured out on Tuesday can show up for Claude Code on Wednesday.

One thing to know before installing: the interactive setup preselects Beacon Cloud, with Local as an explicit opt-out. The README says signing in sends nothing on its own, and that the confirm screen tells you before anything connects.

The $5.5M round was led by Tower Research Ventures, with Lytical Ventures, 1984 Ventures and South Park Commons. Asymptote's paid product is a security layer on top of Beacon that watches live agent activity and blocks risky tool calls. The company says Beacon's GitHub stars grew more than 460% in September.

Why it matters

Session logs hold your code, your prompts and sometimes secrets. A tool that reads all of them is useful, and it's also a new place for that data to leak, so choose where it goes on day one.

Try this

On a Mac: brew trust asymptote-labs/tap, brew tap asymptote-labs/tap, brew install beacon, then beacon endpoint install. Pick Local on the setup screen if you don't want sessions going to Beacon Cloud.
