Daytona raises $60M at a $1B valuation for the sandboxes AI agents run code in

Angels in the round include Patrick Collison, Tobi Lütke, Aravind Srinivas, Eric Yuan, Olivier Pomel, Adam D'Angelo and Brendan Foody. Qualcomm Ventures, Samsung Next and Okta Ventures joined as strategic investors.

Daytona's pitch is that an agent's computer has to start in milliseconds, pause with its state intact, fork into parallel copies and disappear when the job is done. Customers it names include Meta, Cohere, Writer, Clay, n8n, Postman, Mintlify and bolt.new. Daytona says Writer ran its own sandbox platform until it passed 20,000 sandboxes a day, then provisioned 300,000 on Daytona in a single month.

The company says revenue is up about 25x since January, with average monthly net revenue retention of about 135%. Those numbers are self-reported.

Why it matters

If your agent runs code it wrote, you need somewhere to run it that isn't your laptop or your production box. This round says sandbox hosting is becoming its own line item, priced and sold separately from the model.
